Men’s sexual health treatment begins with identifying which mechanism is actually causing the problem — vascular, neurological, hormonal, metabolic or psychological — because the cause determines what will help. At RejuvStem in Cancun, that assessment comes before any discussion of treatment.
Most men arrive having tried one thing that did not work and concluded nothing will. That conclusion is usually wrong, but the reasoning behind it is understandable — they were treated for the wrong mechanism. Every man who reaches out goes through a medical consultation to identify which one actually applies before any treatment is discussed.
This page covers men’s sexual health broadly and points you toward the specific condition that fits. Regenerative therapy is one option among several, and it is investigational rather than proven — the American Urological Association classifies intracavernosal stem cell therapy as investigational.

If you already know your specific concern is erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, or low libido, you can go directly to that page. This overview exists for the more common situation: symptoms that do not fit neatly into one category, or a suspicion something is wrong without a clear sense of what to call it. Our Cancun team sees that far more often than a tidy, pre-labeled complaint, and this page is built for that reality.
- ✓Sexual difficulty in men has vascular, neurological, hormonal, metabolic and psychological causes — often several at once
- ✓Which cause applies determines what helps; treating the wrong mechanism produces expense and disappointment
- ✓Established treatments have decades of evidence and should generally be tried first
- ✓Regenerative therapy is investigational, and no published human MUSE trial exists for any sexual indication
- ✓RejuvStem in Cancun uses allogeneic MUSE cells as an authorized partner of MuseCell Innovations® in Mexico
- ✓Every patient goes through a medical consultation to determine the right approach for their situation
The Five Mechanisms Behind Male Sexual Difficulty
Nearly every case traces to one or more of these. Identifying which is the entire job of a first consultation.
Vascular. Erections depend on rapid, substantial blood flow. Anything affecting the vascular system — atherosclerosis, hypertension, high cholesterol, smoking — affects that capacity. This matters beyond sex. Erectile difficulty frequently precedes diagnosed cardiovascular disease by several years, because the penile arteries are narrower than the coronary arteries and show restriction sooner. Our Cancun physicians treat new-onset vascular ED as a reason to check cardiovascular health, not just sexual function. Men are sometimes surprised to be asked about chest pain and exercise tolerance during a sexual health consultation. It is not a diversion.
Neurological. Erection begins as a nerve signal. Anything disrupting that pathway — diabetic neuropathy, prostate surgery, spinal injury, multiple sclerosis — interrupts the process before blood flow ever becomes relevant. This is why medication that amplifies a blood flow signal often disappoints men after prostate surgery. There is less signal arriving to amplify in the first place.
Hormonal, Metabolic and Psychological Causes
Hormonal. Testosterone influences desire more directly than it influences erectile capacity. Low testosterone more often presents as reduced interest than as difficulty performing when interested — a distinction that matters diagnostically. Thyroid dysfunction and elevated prolactin also affect function and are simple to test.
Metabolic. Diabetes is the clearest example, and it causes trouble through several routes simultaneously — vascular damage, nerve damage and endothelial dysfunction. This combination explains why diabetic sexual difficulty often responds poorly to treatments addressing only one mechanism.
Psychological and relational. Performance anxiety, depression, relationship distress, stress and poor sleep. These are not lesser causes and they are not imaginary. They are among the strongest determinants of sexual function, and they frequently coexist with physical causes — a man with mild vascular change may develop anxiety about it that becomes the larger problem.
None of these five exist in isolation, and part of why a proper evaluation takes time is that our Cancun physicians are trying to untangle which is primary and which is secondary, rather than accepting the first plausible explanation.
Conditions We Address at Our Cancun Clinic
Erectile dysfunction. The most common reason men contact us. ED is not one condition — it has vascular, neurogenic, metabolic and hormonal forms, and the subtype determines what is reasonable to try. Men whose PDE5 inhibitors stopped working, or never worked, usually have a mechanism the medication was not addressing rather than a resistance to it. Peyronie’s disease. Fibrous plaque within the tunica albuginea causing curvature, pain, shortening or deformity. It progresses through two distinct phases, and which phase you are in changes everything about appropriate treatment. Peyronie’s also has an FDA-approved drug treatment — collagenase clostridium histolyticum — that many men have never been offered. Low libido and reduced sexual interest. Distinct from erectile difficulty, though the two are often confused and frequently co-occur. Desire problems more often trace to testosterone, medication, sleep, stress, depression or an untreated medical condition than to anything in the genital tissue itself. Ejaculatory difficulty. Premature and delayed ejaculation are common, treatable, and rarely discussed. Both have behavioral, pharmacological and occasionally physical causes, and our Cancun team evaluates for all three before recommending anything. Premature Ejaculation Treatment
Male fertility. Low sperm count, poor motility and related concerns. A different clinical question from sexual function, though they sometimes present together, and our Cancun physicians will tell you plainly if fertility evaluation should happen separately from sexual health treatment. What Changes With Age, and What Doesn’t
Some change is expected. Erections may take longer to achieve, require more direct stimulation, and be somewhat less rigid. Refractory time lengthens. Desire may moderate. Testosterone declines gradually from around age 30.
None of that constitutes dysfunction. It constitutes aging, and our Cancun physicians will say so plainly rather than treating it as pathology to be sold something for.
What is not normal at any age: an inability to achieve erections sufficient for sex, the loss of morning and nocturnal erections, pain during erection, curvature that develops over months, or a sudden change in function.
Sudden change in particular warrants medical evaluation rather than a treatment purchase. It can signal a vascular, neurological or hormonal issue that needs identifying, and our Cancun physicians will say so directly if that is what your history suggests.
The Treatment Landscape
Established options have decades of evidence behind them. They belong in this conversation and they usually come first. PDE5 inhibitors remain first-line for most men. Intracavernosal injections are effective when PDE5 fails, across most causes. Vacuum devices offer a non-pharmacological option. Penile implants have high satisfaction rates for severe or refractory ED. Testosterone therapy is established for diagnosed hypogonadism. Collagenase is the only FDA-approved drug for Peyronie’s with stable curvature. Behavioral and sex therapy are established and underused. Shockwave therapy is emerging, best studied in mild to moderate vascular ED. PRP injections are experimental per the AUA. Stem cell therapy is investigational per the AUA.

Where Regenerative Therapy Actually Stands
A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis in BMC Urology examined stem cell therapy across eleven clinical trials in erectile dysfunction. Pooled results showed improvement in IIEF scores — the standard questionnaire measuring erectile function — and in penile blood-flow measures at approximately six months, the longest follow-up available, with no major adverse events. The authors concluded the approach is promising but not conclusively proven, calling for longer comparative trials.
The AUA Erectile Dysfunction Guideline, Statement 24, classifies intracavernosal stem cell therapy as investigational. Statement 25 classifies PRP as experimental.
On MUSE cells specifically. Dezawa MuseCells® have registered human clinical trial data in stroke, acute myocardial infarction, spinal cord injury, ALS, dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa, neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and ARDS. No published human trial exists for erectile dysfunction or any sexual indication. The only relevant research is a preclinical rat study of cavernous nerve injury.
We offer this therapy in Cancun and we are still telling you that.
What Our Consultation Screens For
Every patient goes through a medical consultation to make sure the approach fits their situation. Here is what that process checks:
An untreated underlying condition. Uncontrolled diabetes, undiagnosed cardiovascular disease, untreated depression or thyroid dysfunction. Treating tissue while the cause continues works against you.
A likely medication cause. Beta blockers, SSRIs, finasteride and others affect sexual function. That belongs with your prescriber, and never stop a prescribed medication on your own.
Established treatment not properly tried. Many men were never adequately titrated on a PDE5 inhibitor, or never offered injection therapy. Those are cheaper, better evidenced, and come first.
Anatomy that makes it implausible. If prostate surgery removed the neurovascular bundles entirely, supporting nerve recovery presupposes nerve to recover. Implants and injection therapy have far better evidence there.
Expectations no treatment can meet. Nobody restores a twenty-year-old’s function, and setting that expectation accurately is part of what the consultation is for.
This is why the consultation happens before any commitment, not after — so the recommendation you get reflects your actual situation rather than a generic offer.
Why Men Travel to Cancun
Access. Cancun International Airport offers nonstop service from most major US and Canadian cities, and our Cancun facility sits roughly fifteen minutes away. For many men, Cancun is a shorter door-to-door trip than a domestic flight plus a connection.
A defined regulatory framework. Stem cell therapy is legal in Mexico under COFEPRIS. Clinics in Cancun handling cells and tissues require specific authorizations, and treating physicians must hold a valid cédula profesional, publicly verifiable at cedulaprofesional.sep.gob.mx. Verify it for any Cancun clinic you consider, ours included.
Allogeneic cells. RejuvStem is an authorized partner of MuseCell Innovations® in Mexico. Our Cancun program uses allogeneic MUSE cells — donor-derived and screened, requiring no harvesting procedure and not limited by your own age or health status. We never describe them as autologous.
Privacy and time. Men consistently tell our Cancun team that the most valuable part was an unhurried conversation about something they had never discussed properly with anyone. That is a benefit of proper consultation more than of any therapy, and worth noting you may find it closer to home.
Logistics, Cost and Follow-Up
Practical logistics. Cancun’s infrastructure supports accommodation across a wide range and a largely English-speaking service sector. Our clinical team works in both English and Spanish. Many men travel to Cancun with a partner, which for conditions affecting a relationship is often more useful than expected.
On cost. We do not publish treatment pricing, because a genuine figure depends on consultation. Travel and accommodation costs in Cancun we discuss openly, with a specific quote after assessment.
The honest drawback. Care in Cancun means follow-up at a distance. Ask us for a specific plan, and keep your own physicians informed rather than bypassed.

What a Consultation at Our Cancun Clinic Involves
Not a protocol — a general sequence. Specifics belong in consultation with a physician who has actually assessed you.
Before you travel. A remote consultation comes first. Our Cancun physicians review your history, prior treatments and their results, current medications and any relevant testing. This is where we identify which of the five mechanisms is actually driving your symptoms, and where some men are advised that a conventional option they have not tried is the better next step for them specifically.
What to bring. Records of any prior ED, hormone or cardiovascular workup, and a full medication list with timing. Men who arrive in Cancun without this get a less precise assessment than they deserve.
On arrival. In-person evaluation happens at our Cancun facility before anything else, and it can change the plan formed remotely if circumstances warrant it.
Afterward. Follow-up happens remotely, and we want your own physician kept informed rather than bypassed. Ask our Cancun team for a specific aftercare plan.
What we will not publish here. Session counts, timing, dosages or frequencies. Those are determined individually in consultation, not standardized on a webpage.
Questions Worth Asking Any Clinic
Have you identified which mechanism is causing my problem. Have you asked what established treatments I have already tried. What exactly are you administering, and is it allogeneic or autologous. What published human evidence exists for my specific condition. What is your regulatory authorization number. What is the treating physician’s cédula profesional. Would you tell me if I should not be treated here.
